Amelia Earhart at Bawdsville back in July...not the best performance I've ever done, I'll be the first to admit. But it spurred me on to really consider what I was trying to say with this act. After another slightly iffy showing at 'Cheese n' Crackers early in September, I gave the second half of the act a complete re-vamp. It begins with an idyllic view of flying, and now ends with a much more sinister take on aircraft used in modern warfare. I use a second plane - a B52 bomber - more commonly known as a stealth bomber, and it's this object that literally removes my clothing...or least that's what I'm going for! The bubbles and matrix fabric are replaced with semaphore flag signalling, which conceal and reveal, not unlike the isis wings often used in burlesque. The act still has a long way to go, but I now feel that the message is clearer. I performed the newest version at Miss Odelia's Opium Den back on September 21st at The Bedford in Balham. I'm grateful to Christina for giving me the stage time, and reassuring me through the inevitable stage fright!

In other news, I was the poster gal for this event in Hitchin on September 14th. Myself and the delectable Honey Schnapps brought the glamour, well....Honey brought the glamour, I brought the daft facial expressions! In my Crossroads act I now pour gold and bronze glitter over myself, rather than the fake Jack Daniels. This makes the act less of a health and safety nightmare for the venue, but a bit of a glitter hell me for in the ensuing days. I have to laugh to myself during my day job, when I still have glitter in my hair, even after three showers.

On the subject of posters, if you live or work in the region of South West London, you may have seen these scary-looking people staring back at you from a shop or cafe window! Yes, The Mist popped their Bawdsville cherry on October 20th for the Dark Carnival event. We were introduced as a trio of feral orphans, and I think we lived up to that! We've also popped up at Cheese n' Crackers this month, and will be rampaging the stage at Poetical Cabaret in Streatham next month. It's all go for us at the moment, with our first hour long show booked in at the Etcetera Theatre in Camden on December 16th, details here.

There were some terrific photos taken of us by Paul Singer at our gig on the Battersea Barge, so I'll include a smattering below...

I haven't entered a competition for a very long time, so when Neil Lewis of Behind Burlesque said I was eligible for Supernova, I was delighted, and even more delighted to be placed third!
September was a busy month for burlesque, as I also performed at Les Cockette's Opening Night in Deptford. Quite a strange gig, the stage was placed in the worst possible area of the pub, but great to hang out with Anna Larkin, Ophelie Frenchkiss and Little Madamee, I made new friends, and got to watch great acts, which is half the reason why I put myself through all this in the first place.

And as if all that wasn't enough, I've also made a new act this month, which I debuted at Bawdsville's Dark Carnival. It's called 'Snake Woman' and is to the Tiger Lillies song of the same name. I drew on a lot of Indian dance and storytelling for this act, and even took belly dance classes to try and achieve a sinewy movement quality. I loved performing the act, but during rehearsals I ripped quite a few stockings in my experimentation! It's a very colourful act in every sense, and quite a departure from my usual style and onstage persona. Video coming soon I hope. Until next time...
